Description: I started my PhD at TUM in September 2009. The projects I managed during the first two and a half years at fortiss (the affiliated research institute) can be found here. My research intersts lie in social media (online communities and social networks), knowledge management, IT benchmarking and IT in developing countries.

My research and thesis are mostly focused on conceptualizing generalized design principles for open production communities (OPCs).

Thesis: Implementing and Evaluating Hand Gesture Recognition for Human-Robot Joint-Action

Description: In April 2006, I started my master's studies at TUM. My thesis was in the field of image recognition. The thesis was on providing a reliable, fast and robust approach to static hand gesture recognition in the domain of a human-robot interaction system. The algorithm was implemented and successfully tested in the gesture recognition module of the Joint-Action Science and Technology (JAST) project (more here). The result of my research was also summarized in a paper The paper can be downloaded here.

Project: Mentality Expression through the Eyes of a Robot

Description: Japan was my first experience abroad. I participated in the Young Scientist Exchange Program (YSEP) at Tokyo Tech, where participants were selected from top universities in 18 countries. This allowed me to come into close contact with a variety of cultures.
During this one-year program, I was working at the Hirota-lab under the supervision of Professor K. Hirota. I was helping with a project to develop a controller of an "expressive robot". The goal was to build up a robot that is capable of expressing different emotions through movement of different parts of its face, particularly its eyes, eyelids and eyebrows. We used H8 evaluation board in order to control different parts of the robot's face.

Thesis: Constructing a Fuzzy Controller a biped-robot with Active Learning Method (ALM)

Description: Sharif university is the best technical university in Iran and I was lucky when I got the admission to start my bachelor's studies in the field of computer engineering there.
My bachelor's thesis was on building a fuzzy controller based on the active learning method (ALM). The configuration values of the controller were automatically extracted from the existing data of a biped robot. I presented a paper on a relevant topic from a colleague of mine at the 5th International Symposium on Advanced Intelligent Systems.
